Keep Your ID

Authors should retain the identification number and use it in all subsequent correspondence with the editorial office.

Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is responsible for communicating editorial decisions and requests to the other authors.

05

Editorial Screening & Desk Rejection

A manuscript may be rejected without external peer review when it does not meet essential editorial, academic, ethical or submission requirements.

Possible Reasons

  • Falls outside the journal's scope
  • Insufficient scholarly contribution
  • Major methodological weaknesses
  • Substantial plagiarism or inappropriate overlap
  • Failure to meet basic academic standards
  • Poor preparation

Further Concerns

  • Failure to follow essential submission requirements
  • Serious ethical concerns
  • Insufficient engagement with relevant literature
  • Inadequate evidence for conclusions

A desk rejection does not necessarily indicate that the research is without value. It means that the manuscript is not considered suitable for further consideration in its submitted form.

06

Plagiarism & Research Integrity Check

Manuscripts may undergo plagiarism and similarity screening before or during peer review.

The editorial team may assess:

  • Textual similarity
  • Duplicate publication
  • Self-plagiarism
  • Unacknowledged use of previously published material
  • Citation irregularities
  • Potential fabrication or falsification
  • Other research-integrity concerns

Where substantial concerns are identified, the manuscript may be returned to the authors, rejected, or subjected to further investigation.

07

Double-Blind Peer Review

The Business and Economic Review generally follows a double-blind peer-review model.

Reviewer Anonymity

  • Reviewers do not normally know the identity of the authors.
  • Authors do not normally know the identity of the reviewers.

Independent Evaluation

  • Reviewers independently evaluate the manuscript.
  • Reviewer comments are communicated through the editorial system.

Reviewers assess the manuscript according to academic and methodological standards appropriate to the discipline.

08

Peer-Review Decision

Following peer review, the editor may make one of several decisions.

Accept

Suitable for publication with no substantive revisions or only minor editorial corrections.

Minor Revision

Potentially publishable but requiring limited corrections or clarifications.

Major Revision

Substantial revisions are required before a final publication decision can be made.

Revise & Resubmit

Significant improvement is required and the manuscript may undergo another evaluation.

Reject

The manuscript is not considered suitable for publication in the journal.

The final editorial decision is made by the authorised editor and is not determined solely by an individual reviewer recommendation.

09

Revision & Response to Reviewers

When revisions are requested, authors should carefully address all reviewer and editorial comments.

A Revised Submission Should Normally Contain

  • Revised Manuscript
  • Response to Reviewers
  • Clean Version, where requested
  • Tracked/Highlighted Version, where requested

Response to Reviewers

Authors should provide a detailed response to every substantive reviewer comment.

If the authors do not agree with a reviewer recommendation, they should provide a respectful and academically justified explanation.

10

Final Editorial Decision

After completion of the peer-review and revision process, the editor makes the final decision.

Accepted

Accepted subject to final editorial corrections where applicable.

Further Revision

The manuscript may be returned for further revision.

Rejected

The manuscript is not accepted for publication.

Acceptance is based on overall scholarly quality, originality, methodological rigour, contribution, ethical compliance and suitability for publication.
